Well, it's getting back to one of my favorite times of the year for Crappie
Here on my home lake of Ross Barnett, that means find the shad, find the crappie. The shad and crappie are moving to the Northeast end of the lake, near the highway 43 bridge. Look for drop offs, ledges and of course the bridge pilings. There are several locations to try right now. From 3 prong to Oil well woods and up to the bridge as long as you're near the river channel will all be good over the next few weeks. Now I do love minnow fishing and spider rigging but this year, I'm going to spend a good bit of time pulling crank baits. Yeh, I pull cranks during the summer but if my last trip was any indication, I'll be pulling crankbaits alot more. 6 hours of total fishing with 4 1/2 spider rigging with jigs and minnow tipped jigs gave me 0 keepers and 1 dink. Then I switched over to cranks for the last hour and a half which put 4 real good keepers in the boat. The biggest one was a real nice 1.8 pounder. I can't wait to get back out there!!!!
