Washington DFW Announces Fishing Closures

Washington DFW Announces Fishing Closures
fishing closures

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have announced fishing closures in Whatcom Creek and a section of the North Fork Nooksack River, effective Dec. 1, 2011 until further notice. All species of fish are included in the closure.

Fishing will be closed on the Nooksack River from the Mosquito Lake Road Bridge upstream to the yellow post located at the upstream-most corner of the hatchery grounds, approximately 1,000 feet upstream of the mouth of Kendall Creek.

Meanwhile, Whatcom Creek will be closed from the mouth to the Woburn Street Bridge.

The Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery winter steelhead programs have had difficulty securing adequate numbers of broodstock fish to meet egg-take goals. Closure of the fisheries, similar to past years, will allow the collection of sufficient numbers of fish to meet production needs.

When the combined broodstock needs of Kendall Creek Hatchery and Whatcom Creek Hatchery are met, the fisheries may reopen and revert to seasons as listed in the Sport fishing Rules 2011/2012 pamphlet edition, FISHING IN WASHINGTON.
