More than 100 Alberni supporters and media joined in the celebrations at Harbour Quay as Mariko presented the trophy and the check to locals Carolyn Jasken, her daughter Shauna, Matt Stabler and acting Mayor Cindy Solda.
Port Alberni, BC, with a population of less than 18,000, lies within the Alberni Valley at the head of the Alberni Inlet, Vancouver Island's longest inlet. It has been dubbed the "Salmon Capital of the World." It is frequented by anglers for five different species of salmon, plus yearly runs of steelhead and halibut.
"I'm so happy I was able to fly out and meet the winners of WFN's 2010 Ultimate Fishing Town," said Mariko. "Port Alberni has a strong and lively fishing community and it was great to see that first-hand. Congrats again to everyone who participated!"
