Texas Team Wins Crappie USA Event

Crappie USA held a qualifying event on April 30th at the Lake Fork Marina on Lake Fork near Alba, Texas where anglers were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela?s Crappie USA Classic. This year's classic will be held October 12-15, 2011 on the Kentucky/Barkley Lakes at Paris, Tennessee.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Anh Nguyen of Roanoke, Texas and Richard Crilley of Little Elm, Texas with a total weight of 13.30 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Anh and Richard also captured second biggest fish of the event with a 2.14 pound crappie. Anh and Richard were fishing the northwest end of the main lake fishing tress and large branches vertical jigging white/chartreuse and fools gold colored jigs in 16 feet of water. The team caught nearly 30 fish throughout the day.
Second place went to Mark Standridge and Jason Townsend of Canton, Texas weighing in 12.94 pounds and earning $600.00. Mark and Jason were also fishing the northwest end of the lake catching their fish 8-10 feet deep in 10-13 feet of water vertical jigging black/chartreuse and white/chartreuse Rocky Top jigs to catch nearly 30 fish for the day.
In third place was the team of Paul O'Bier of Gunter, Texas and Mackey Whyte of Allen, Texas with a weight of 12.84 pounds and earning $400.00. Paul and Mackey were vertical jigging chartreuse/glow Lake Fork jigs with their fish holding in 10-18 feet deep in 13-25 feet of water on the northeast side of the lake. The team caught nearly 20 fish for the day.

Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was the lone angler Cody Tucker of Aubrey, Texas with a weight of 12.19 pounds and earning $500.00. Cody was fishing the north side of the lake in shallow water 6-9 feet deep using Rocky Top jigs tipped with minnows on isolated trees catching 25-30 fish for the day.
Second place went to the team of Sean Gossett of Emory, Texas and Brad Williams of Caddo Mills, Texas with a weight of 11.77 pounds and earning $300.00. Sean and Brad were fishing bodarks on the northwest end of the lake in 16-18 feet of water with their fish suspended near 10 feet deep. The team was vertical jigging pink/white Lake Fork jigs to catch 35-40 fish for the day.
Taking third place was Jimmy Nielsen of Ft. Worth, Texas fishing alone to weigh in 8.65 pounds and earning $200.00. Jimmy was fishing the northwest end of the lake fishing Bodark stumps in 10 feet of water on the bottom using a single pole with minnows to catch 8 fish for the day.

Big Fish Award
Taking big fish of the event was the team of Jeff Schwieterman of Allen, Texas and James Rains of Rockwell, Texas with a 2.15 pound crappie and earning $108.50. Second place in the big fish contest was the team of Anh Nguyen of Roanoke, Texas and Richard Crilley of Little Elm, Texas with a 2.14 pound crappie earning $46.50.
Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$2,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela?s Crappie USA Classic.
Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $302,000.00 to the ?Crappie Kids? Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA ?Kids Fishing Rodeos?.
