TenPoint Vapor RS470 XERO: First Crossbow with Rangefinding Scope

TenPoint crossbows has announced the launch of what it calls the most powerful and most accurate long-range crossbow on the market -- the Vapor RS470 XERO, fitted with the new Garmin Xero X1i, the first crossbow scope with an integrated laser rangefinder.

The RS470 XERO delivers blazing arrow speeds up to 470 feet per second and the revolutionary Garmin Xero X1i provides exact aiming at any distance for unmatched long-range accuracy .

The Garmin scope allows shooters to shoulder the crossbow, identify the target through the scope and receive ranging information at the touch of a button. The auto-ranging digital scope with 3.5X magnification automatically measures distance to a target. A single button press lets you range game up to 250 yards away and reflective targets up to 500 yards away.

With the Garmin scope, the days of "gap-shooting" with multiple aim points are gone -- you range your target by way of the built-in touchpad on the grip. Precise illuminated aim points automatically adjust for both distance and brightness conditions to allow you to see your target, unobstructed by reticle patterns.

Laser Locate waypoint projection works with compatible Garmin devices (sold separately) to show you exactly where the target was located when the shot or range was taken, so you can better track game or find bolts. In addition, the scope allows you to create custom bolt profiles with unique aim points for each setup, while its Target Lock and Steady Shot features assist with ranging and aiming performance to help improve accuracy.

RS470 XERO's ACUslide is the talk of the 2020 crossbow market, featuring the groundbreaking Auto-Brake Gear System, which allows for silent cocking, and safe and controlled de-cocking. The Auto-Brake Gear System eliminates the potential of losing control, which can lead to injury or costly bow damage during the de-cocking process. While de-cocking with the ACUslide, the user can remove their hand from the handle at any point, with no other action required, and the handle will stop in place. The 7-inch XTEND Adjustable Crank Handle reduces cocking effort to 5 pounds and stores securely into the butt-stock.

The Vapor features a patented reverse-draw bow assembly that draws the string through the riser, creating an industry leading 17-inch power stroke. The increased power stroke generates more speed with less draw weight, creating a smoother, quieter shot. The elongated power stroke also keeps the arrow nock engaged with the string for an additional 4 inches, compared to traditional crossbows, before release. This is a critical component in performance, as the longer the nock remains engaged with the string, the more accurate the shot. This center-mounted riser provides superior balance, eliminating the "nose heavy" feel of traditional crossbows.

The RX7-Cam system rotates an industry-leading 404 degrees to produce speeds up to an unprecedented 470 fps. Vector-Quad cable technology utilizes four cables instead of the traditional two, which eliminates cam lean and generates straight-nock travel leading to same-hole down-range accuracy.

The Vapor RS470 XERO features the company's S1 trigger, a two-stage, zero-creep design with an advanced roller-sear system that delivers a consistent crisp, 3.5-pound pull. The trigger is equipped with a DFI (Dry-Fire-Inhibitor) and is fitted with a nylon-filament arrow retention brush that improves arrow grip and alignment. An integrated string stop system is also included to further reduce noise and vibration.

The crossbow has a 20-inch MICRO-TRAC fluted aluminum barrel to reduce the flight deck surface by 50 percent. The minimal string-to-barrel contact increases accuracy and provides string life in excess of 1,000 shots.

The barrel is fastened to the ultra-light, two-piece TEC-X stock that features multiple weight-reducing cutouts, as well as a hollow pocket that houses the ACUslide system. Reverse-Draw Bow Assembly

The reverse-draw bow assembly design of the Vapor RS470 XERO yields many advantages over traditional forward draw style crossbows.

• By mounting the bow assembly to the stock in the reverse direction, the aluminum riser and limb pockets on the Vapor RS470 XERO are mounted mid-way down the stock instead of at the far end of the flight rail. This moves the center-of-gravity of the crossbow closer to the shooter's body and places most of the crossbow's weight behind the fore-grip support hand. This eliminates the front-heavy feeling of most crossbows and yields superior overall balance, making the Vapor RS470 XERO easy to shoot from an off-hand position.
• By reversing the bow assembly and changing the riser mounting position, the string's resting position is extended a few inches farther down the flight rail. This increases the Vapor RS470 XERO's power stroke length by an additional 4-inches over traditional forward draw crossbows to an industry leading 17-inches and results in faster arrow speed when compared to an arrow shot from a forward draw crossbow with the same rail length. This power stroke advantage allows the Vapor RS470 XERO to remain compact yet still accurately perform at the highest level.
• The Vapor RS470 XERO is more energy-efficient when compared to forward draw crossbows. Since the power stroke of a reverse-draw crossbow is longer than that of a forward draw, the required draw weight is lower, but the assembly still accelerates the arrow to a higher speed than that of a forward draw crossbow with the same draw weight and overall crossbow length.
• Since the string and cables are mounted at a lower draw weight, generating less vibration after the shot, the result is an extremely quiet and smooth-shooting crossbow. Less vibration means less "muzzle-jump" which allows the shooter to follow through the shot more easily by maintaining the aiming point on the target after the arrow has been launched.
