The Major League Fishing 2016 Bass Pro Shops Challenge Select caravan drove a short distance out of Youngstown, Ohio, and suddenly pulled off the paved, public highway onto a large grassy field behind a gate adorned with NO TRESPASSING signs.
As the trucks and boats parked in the field one by one, the competitors began to get the sense the first Survival Round was not going to be any ordinary day of fishing on any ordinary lake.
“You are at Evans Lake; you must have your boat inspected and sign a release form to fish here,” the anglers were told by an official.
Scott Suggs was the first pro to assess the special access arrangement MLF had secured for entry into Evans Lake.

“Hey, anytime you get to legally take a rod and reel behind a no-trespassing sign, that’s usually a good thing!” Suggs belted out.
“This tells me this place gets watched a lot,” Suggs said as he penned his signature on the release. “There’s probably not a whole lot of fishing pressure on this pond. This is going to be big time fun!”
