Southeast Florida Fishing Report ? Week 3 ? August 2012Offshore Sailfish, Kingfish, BFT, Bonito, Wahoo were biting baits on the troll in 70-520 feet. Dorado were found around weed lines and under birds. Skirted lures/Ballyhoo, strip baits, and feather jigs called in the strikes. A 6 line Dorado hook up and catch was reported last weekend further out in the Gulf Stream. Marlin were further out. The swordfish bite remained consistent with some nice triple marker catches.On the reefs and wrecks, Jacks, Yellowtail Snapper and Mutton Snapper, Kingfish, occasional small Cobia and Bonito were biting well on sardines, ballyhoo, pilchards, cut bait in 40-200 feet. Some scattered peanut Dorado were in close.Near shore, along the beaches, piers, inlets and the Intracoastal Waterway, Bluefish, Blue Runners, Jacks, Snappers, and Permit were biting live shrimp/pilchards and cut baits. Tarpon were around the inlets and bridges. Snook were around docks, bridges, inlets and along the beaches. Live shrimp under popping corks, artificial shrimp on the bottom and spoons produced the best bites. Snook season is closed until the season reopens September 1. When the season reopens, a Snook permit is required to harvest Snook.In freshwater, largemouth bass are biting best in the early morning and late evening. In the lakes live shiners are producing the best in open water, holes and channels. Top water, and crank baits also produced strikes.
