Among the anglers fishing in the 2016 Bass Pro Shops Challenge Select in Youngstown, Ohio, two of them – Fletcher Shryock and Jacob Wheeler – are the closest to home.
Shryock lives in New Philadelphia, Ohio, which is just an hour and a half away from Youngstown and Wheeler lives about five hours away in Indianapolis, Indiana. This gives these two pros the highest probability of fishing familiar waters near Youngstown.
But as the MLF brigade pulled up to a boat ramp on Lake Milton for Qualifying Round 2, both anglers were shaking their heads.
Lake Milton is a small 1685-acre reservoir located 20 miles to the west of Youngstown.

“I have fished every lake in a 60-mile radius of my house,” Shryock said, letting out a sigh. “Except for this one.
“What are the chances?” he asked in disbelief. “I’ve fished Mosquito (Creek), Berlin, Portage – you name it. But I’ve never made a cast here. So my home court advantage is nil.”
