Salute Mom Hunters This Mother's Day
May 13, 2017
Mother's Day weekend is a good time to acknowledge that a growing number of American hunters are women, and many of them are also moms.
One is Piper Dunlap from Oklahoma, who's been shooting a bow since she was 5 years old.
She's harvested many deer in the last decade, including what was, at the time, the largest Pope & Young (archery) buck ever taken by a woman in Oklahoma.
Her parents were both competitive archers, and Piper's daughter, Charlsie, 3, has already begun shooting a recurve.
You can see them both in the short video above, provided by Carhartt as part of its Mother's Day salute to "The Carhartt Mom."
Women hunters like Dunlap make up 11 percent of all hunters in the U.S., according to Census Bureau statistics — overall, there are 13.7 million American hunters — and women participation in hunting has increased 25 percent over the last 5 years.
Happy Mother's Day.
