Record Brown Trout Caught in New Zealand

An enormous brown trout recently caught on New Zealand’s South Island tipped the scales at an amazing 42 lbs, 1 oz.

The behemoth, which was caught by Otwin Kandolf in a canal below a salmon farm, appears to break the current IGFA all-tackle record of 41 lbs, 8 oz.

According to Kandolf, the size of the fish can be attributed to the fact that it’s been feeding on salmon food pellets that have drifted downstream from the farm.

“I couldn’t believe it. It looked to me like a submarine,” he told New Zealand’s Channel 3 News.

Kandolf plans to mount the fish to hang on his wall.
