The Walmart FLW Tour on the Potomac River presented by National Guard will visit National Harbor, Md., June 2-5 for the sixth tournament of the season. Hosted by National Harbor, the tournament will feature more than 300 top bass anglers casting for top awards up to $125,000 cash in the Pro Division and up to $25,000 cash in the Co-angler Division.
?This tournament is going to be awesome,? said Kellogg?s Frosted Flakes pro Dave Lefebre. ?We couldn?t be hitting the river at a better time. The fish are going to be postspawn and grouping really nicely in grassy areas. There never really is a bad time to fish the Potomac, it is loaded with fish.
?There are really two ways to fish the Potomac River,? Lefebre went on to say. ?Either play the tide or ignore it. I like to play the tide, it really fits my style of fishing. The tide makes you think more and adjust on the sly which is what I love to do. I won my first big tournament on the Potomac so I am very fond of the fishery.
?Spinnerbaits, crankbaits and jigs are going to be big in this tournament,? Lefebre added. ?The water is shallow so it will be a lot of power fishing. Put the spinning rods away and fish fast. The person who can convert on the big bites, and I am talking 5 ½ -pounder or bigger, is going to win. It is going to take at least one or two big bites per day to win. You really need to shoot for that 20-pound mark each day to win.?
Anglers will take off from National Harbor Marine located at 137 National Plaza in National Harbor at 6:30 each morning. Weigh-ins will also be held at the marina beginning at 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Fans will be treated to the FLW Outdoors Expo at the National Harbor Marina, located at 137 National Harbor Plaza in National Harbor, Md., on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. prior to the final weigh-ins. The Expo includes Ranger boat simulators, the opportunity to interact with professional anglers, enjoy interactive games, activities and giveaways provided by sponsors, and learn more about the sport of fishing and other outdoor activities. All activities are free and open to the public.
In FLW Tour competition, anglers are also vying for valuable points in hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Forrest Wood Cup presented by Walmart, the world championship of bass fishing.
