Standing in an empty boat yard in Cookeville, Tennessee, the appearance of a lone figure quickly making his way towards me wasn’t a surprise.
As the launch of the Major League Fishing 2016 Bass Pro Shops Summit Select Day Two Qualifier prepared to get underway, it wasn’t a surprise that the angler making quick strides was none other than Mississippi pro Pete Ponds, a rookie on the circuit.
Seeing the big smile and obvious energy that Ponds was carrying in the predawn gloom, the first question was easy: Pete, are you excited about all of this?
“Of course, I’m excited!” smiled Ponds. “It’s the first time I’ve fished Major League Fishing and I didn’t get much sleep. Yesterday, I was just a little bit late for a meeting and I didn’t want to do it again today.

“So yeah, I’m jacked up this morning and we’re going to catch them!”
Even though the high skies, little wind, bluebird, early-summer weather doesn’t appear to be what most anglers want to find?
