Plans for the Labor Day weekend
The plan is to take Laura and head out to one of about 6 lakes in the area we might hit 3 or 4 all told but the idea is top water buzzin for Pike. We if the weather will work with us plan to get after the Yellow Perch with spinnerbaits again as well and work more wood cover for big pike at Long and Narrow lakes. One thing is for sure, we will keep the fish busy. I will add to this blog next week after we get our fishing done and hope to have some nice photos to share.
Sep/6/2011 post addition:
So another Labor day has come and gone and more fish
have been caught and released to continue the tradition for our
family. Every season Labor day is always related to fishing, it's
just always been that way. So after looking at the situation here in
Athabasca we discovered we would be limited in the lakes we wanted to
get to. There are a few issues here in the area I am going to cover
in a separate post later this week. Needless to say the issue has
caused a major shift in anglers and water skiers moving to the few
lakes still available to us.
So Laura and I hit Amisk Lake again for another Labor
Day, we hit Amisk last season also. We usually try and do a different
lake each season but with the situation up here we decided to make
the best out of a busy Amisk lake. We used Cardiac Kids to entice
Pike to hit on top and also used the Cadence Spinner-bait to catch
Pike and Walleye in the Amisk lake wood cover. The yellow perch were
elusive this week I think the activity on the lake was just way to
much for the perch and they took off and suspended somewhere in the
middle of the lake. Jet skiers, Water Skiers, Wake-boarders, and
people in big boats racing around just to race around made the lake a
little harder to fish. Big wakes and close encounters got to be a tad
much for Laura and I and we cut our day a bit short.
We made it a point to get out there early and it paid
off for us as we did manage to catch 41 fish in the few hours we had
out there. A combo of Pike and Walleye made the day worth it. So even
though it was busy we had a blast and managed to get some top water
action caught on camera.
Some of Laura's top water action.
