Oregon Officials Consider Upcoming Chinook, Sturgeon Seasons
The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will weigh in on the upcoming Columbia and Willamette river spring chinook and sturgeon seasons when it meets in Salem on Friday, Feb.4.
The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at ODFW Headquarters at 3406 Cherry Ave. NE in Salem.
The Commission will be asked to provide general guidance for ODFW staff to use in setting the upcoming spring chinook and sturgeon seasons on the Columbia and Willamette rivers. The details of the 2011 spring chinook and sturgeon fisheries on the Columbia and Willamette rivers will be set at the Feb. 8 meeting of the Columbia River Compact in Oregon City.
The Commission will be asked to appoint a new member to represent agricultural interests on ODFW Fish Screening Task Force.
The Fish Screening Program coordinates a cost share program for the installation of screens at water diversions. Its seven members are appointed by the Commission and represent agricultural, fisheries and public interests.
The Commission will be asked to approve the updated rules relating to the Department?s wildlife integrity rules, Division 056.
Finally, the Commission will be asked to select the winning 2011 Upland Game Bird Art Stamp from among five finalists. A total of 14 entries depicting a spruce grouse were entered for this year?s contest.
The Commission is the policy-making body for fish and wildlife issues in the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly. Agenda item exhibits may be requested by calling the ODFW Director?s Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044.
Public testimony will be held Friday morning immediately following the expenditure report.
