Rick Morrison is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a first place win worth $259 in an American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Douglas Lake this past weekend. Morrison weighed in five fish at 12.95 pounds including a nice kicker at 5.27 pounds that won him Big Bass of the tournament.
Jeff Statzer placed second with a weight of 9.10 pounds while Bill Freeman finished third with 9.00 pounds.
The top five anglers in the tournament were:
- Rick Morrison 12.95 pounds
- Jeff Statzer 9.10
- Bill Freeman 9.00
- Howie Burger 8.04
- Charles Graybeal 7.79
Big Fish: Rick Morrison 5.27 pounds.
Winning Strategy: Rick concentrated his efforts on main lake points targeting rolling rock and caught the better fish with a green pumpkin trick worm, texas rigged, bouncing it off the rocks. His fish were suspended over structure breaks in 5 to 10 feet of water. Some Bass were in a spawn pattern, including his big fish of the day, but most were scattered due to fluctuations in lake level and thunderstorms . Interviewing other successful anglers we discovered that many of the fish had moved very shallow as well relating less to bait and more to cover.
Next Divisional Tournament: This division?s next tournament will be April 21 on Watts Bar at Kingston Public Ramp.
