Kids' fishing days in Montana

A number of Kids Fishing Days have been scheduled by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks for northwest Montana. The events provide fishing opportunities for anglers age 12 and younger.


Ninepipes Kids Fishing Day

Kicking off the season is the Ninepipes Kids Fishing Day at the Ninepipes Pond south of Ronan. The event is co-sponsored by Polson Outdoors, Inc and Ronan Sports and Western. The fishing day is scheduled for Saturday, May 1 from 9 am to noon . "This is two weeks earlier than usual; we hope the cooler water will get the fish biting , " notes regional fisheries manager Jim Vashro. The pond is stocked with rainbow trout for Hooked On Fishing events. The fishing day is open to anglers age 12 and younger with prizes for the largest and smallest fish in 3 age groups. There will be some loaner fishing outfits and bait available. The pond is located south of Ronan across from the Ninepipes Museum and Resort. The area also has a handicapped accessible trail for bird watching on Ninepipes Refuge.

Flathead Fishing Fair at Snappy Sport Senter in Kalispell

The fishing fair will be held on Saturday May 8 from 9 am to 1 pm . Along with kids fishing there are lots of other fishing related activities and information for both kids and adults. The event is co-sponsored by Snappys and area fishing organizations.

The Shady Lane Kids Fishing Day

This event is scheduled for Saturday, May 22 from 9 am to noon. Shady Lane Pond is part of the Old Steel Bridge Fishing Access near Kalispell. The event is co-sponsored by Sportsman and Ski Haus.

The Triangle Pond Kids Fishing Day

This fishing day will be held on Saturday, June 5 from 9 am to noon. Triangle Pond is west of Noxon and the event is organized by Avista with assistance from FWP and the US Forest Service.


The Troy Kids Pond Fishing Day

The Troy Pond kids fishing day is Saturday, June 12 from 8 am to noon . The event is co-sponsored by the US Forest Service and US Army Corps of Engineers.

--The fishing days offer prizes in several age categories. Some of these events offer loaner fishing outfits, fishing assistance and general fishing information.
