Illinois Team Wins King Kat Super Event

This past weekend the Cabela?s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Rock River at Dixon, Illinois for a $10,000.00 One-Day Super Event. 500 spectators watched over 150 top anglers from eight different states compete not only for the $10,000 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2012 Cabela?s King Kat Classic. This year's Cabela?s King Kat Classic will be held on the Alabama River at Selma, Alabama September 27-29.


Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the Rock Falls, Illinois team of Ray and Bruce Sanders, weighing in 36.09 pounds and earning $4,400. RThe Sanders team fished south of Prophetstown targeting 10-14 feet of water using bluegill to catch eight fish for the day.

The Dixon, Illinois team of Michael and Melissa Thomas took second place with 28.03 pounds, good enough for the $2,000 prize. They also took big fish of the event with a 23.81-pound flathead catfish caught on goldfish around 2:00PM, earning them an additional $1,360. The team was fishing near Erie in 8-11 feet of water using creek chubs to catch most of their other fish.

Third place went to Bobby Lee and Zac Sharp of Illinois, weighing in 25.88 pounds and earning $1,200. Bobby and Zac were fishing below the Sterling Dam in six feet of water using bullheads to catch three fish for the day.

The Erie, Illinois team of Nick Stern and Jesse Ryan took fourth place with a weight of 23.63 pounds, earning $1,000. Stern and Ryan fished below Erie in depths anywhere from six inches to 12 feet of water using shad and creek chubs to catch 15 catfish for the day.


Fifth place went to the Leclaire, Iowa team of Dave Melchert and Mike Presson, weighing in 23.48 pounds and earning $800. The team fished near the Milan Dam in two-six feet of water using shad guts to catch 15 fish for the day.
