Illinois Angler Nears National Championship

Jay Burggraf from Cordova, Illinois is one step closer to the ABA National Championship with a first place win and $259 in an American Fishing Tour bass tournament held on Pool 13 Mississippi River this past weekend. Burggraf's five-bass limit weighed in at 19.97 pounds, anchored by a 5.16-pound largemouth that took big bass honors.Second place went to George Bideaux with a weight of 14.08 pounds, while Randy Price took third with 13.70.These anglers are acquiring valuable points towards a berth in their division's two-day championship and the American Fishing Tour National Championship that will be held this fall. Their points are also being used to determine the divisional angler of the year. The top angler by points earned in this division will represent the division in the Angler of the Year final round.The top five anglers were:
  1. Jay Burggraf 19.97 Lbs.
  2. George Bideaux 14.08 Lbs.
  3. Randy Price 13.70 Lbs.
  4. Nathan Gravert 13.13 Lbs.
  5. Derek Kaalberg 10.53 Lbs.
Winning Strategy: Burggraf fished shallow water grass lines using jigs and spinnerbaits to catch his winning limit.Next Divisional Tournament: This division?s next tournament will be May 27, 2012 on Mississippi River Pool 14 at Port Byron, Illinois.
