Hurricane Isaac's Landfall Keeps Waters Closed
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will reopen Lake Ramsey Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in St. Tammany Parish on Sept. 4. Lake Ramsey had been closed in advance of Hurricane Isaac?s landfall.LDWF sites that remain closed until further notice include the following WMAs and refuges: Elm Hall (Assumption Parish); Elmer?s Island (Jefferson Parish); Joyce (Tangipahoa Parish); Manchac (St. John the Baptist Parish); Maurepas Swamp (Ascension, Livingston, St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes); and Pearl River (St. Tammany Parish).Habitat and facility damage assessments are ongoing at sites still closed to determine storm impacts.For more information on state WMAs, contact Kenny Ribbeck at 225-765-2346 or kribbeck@wlf.la.gov.
