Apex Gear Inferno Five Pin

TruGlo introduced Apex in 2007. The Inferno Five Pin sight comes standard with an LED light source. This is a wrapped fiber optic sight with .029-inch-diameter fibers. I get nervous when I see fiber optic sights with poorly protected, vulnerable fibers between the spool and the pinhead. This is not one of them. Apex encloses the fibers in tiny metal tubes with a low-profile shield that further guards them from rough handling and collisions with branches. The sight is fully adjustable to fit any bow and anchor point combination.

TruGlo Pendulum

Pendulum sights are very popular among tree stand hunters because they automatically compensate for shooting distance. The TruGlo Pendulum will handle all distances from nearly straight down to 35 yards while producing an accurate shot. This takes much of the guesswork out of the moment of truth. You have a choice of .029-inch- or .040-inch-diameter fibers. You can lock the pendulum in place for ground-level shooting.

Fuse Intrepid 5-Pin

The new Intrepid 5-Pin sight features thin metal pins that protect the exposed fiber but don't obstruct your view of the target. The sight is available with .029- or .019-inch-diameter pins. Third axis leveling is an important feature of the Fuse Intrepid, permitting an archer to adjust the side-to-side angle of the sight head, resulting in improved accuracy on downward- and upward-angled shots.

Copper John Dead Nuts 2Hunter Pro

The Dead Nuts 2 Hunter Pro has four pins that are protected inside individual clear plastic tubes as they are routed around the pin guard to gather enough light for maximum visibility early and late in the day. The fiber diameter is .029 inches and the sight body is completely adjustable.

G5 Outdoors

The new Optix XR has three fixed pins and one pin that you can adjust up or down with a dial on the back of the sight body. You can set the top three pins for 20, 30 and 40 yards and use the bottom adjustable pin to dial in the exact distance of any shot beyond 40 yards. The sight has .029- or .019-inch-diameter pins. The sight also comes with an adjustable light.

Trophy Ridge Pyro

The Pyro gets its name from its bright pins. This compact sight has a rugged design and four pins attached to mini spools that extend out the back of the sight body. Each spool has 2 feet of .019-inch-diameter fiber. One of the places where otherwise good sights fall short is the vulnerability of their fibers as they loop around to form the pinhead. The fibers on the Pyro are protected over this important span. You can quickly add or remove pins.

Summit Hot Dot

The Hot Dot is an innovative idea. The bottom of the sight body projects light beams upward onto an angled, clear-plastic screen. These dots of light become the aiming points as you look through the clear plastic at your target. It has two modes -- a pendulum mode and a fixed mode. In the pendulum mode, the aiming point moves on the screen along with your bow angle to compensate for shot distance. In the fixed-pin mode, you can choose to display from one to six fixed aiming points.
