Florida Guides Feeiling Impact of BP Oil Spill

Florida Guides Feeiling Impact of BP Oil Spill

Not one drop of oil has reached Florida waters yet waves of speculation, rumor, innuendo and hype emanating from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill have hammered Florida's gulf coast.  The fact that the oil spill has had zero environmental impact on Florida has not stopped guides, hotels and restaurants along Florida's west coast from feeling its sting.

Florida Guides Association President Captain Pat Kelley said, "I think somebody cried Big Bad Wolf, but the Big Bad Wolf hasn't started biting on us yet."1  Misconceptions among throngs of tourists have prompted thousands of cancellations of fishing charters and hotel reservations.  Guides already reeling from the bad economy have to weather another storm that just isn't justified at this time.

No one knows for sure where the oil will eventually end up, but for now the waters are clean, the beaches are pristine and the fishing is great.  Don't let speculation and hype keep you from enjoying a wonderful time on Florida's gulf coast.
