Fishing with Dad: First Time in 22 Years WVBASSFISHERMAN Hello again to all my fishing friends and fellow WFN Ambassadors. This year on Fathers Day, for the first time in twenty years, I finally got my dad to take a break from work and the farm to go fishing. I'm gonna start this off with a little bit of a flash back so bear with me. The last time me and dad went fishing together was roughly when I was 6 or 7 years old, at this time in my life we lived near the Potomac River on the West Virginia, Maryland border. Dad was active duty in the US Army at the time and also work as an auto tech for a local Chevorlet dealer. I can remember going out digging up worms and then heading down to the river with out Zebco 303's in hand. We would spend evenings bobber fishing for Sunfish, and often brought them home for dinner. Now, we'll flash back to the present day and time. Due to work, farming, and the daily trials of life, My dad and I don't get the chance to get away together much, especially during the summer. As the years go on it gets harder and harder to find anything that dad actually needs for Fathers Day, so this year I decided to get him a new fishing rod. Now the trusty Zebco 303 is replaced with with a Shakespere Firebird Spinning rod combo. We rolled out of the driveway around 6:30 and headed out to the lake for some well overdue time on the water together. We had less than perfect weather at first, with about 2 hours of light rain, but the bass fishing was great all morning long. It took a few attempts but dad got the casting down again and was catching fish. We spent the whole morning on the water, and manage to catch over 20 fish. Dad had two absolute monsters snap his line due to drag adjustment issues LOL. After about five hours we headed back to shore with chewed up thumbs and lots of memories in toe. Hopefully this will be the first of many fishing trips we take together this summer. Until next time Good luck and great fishing.
