Fishing in 2011 so Far........
Hello again to all my fellow
fisherman and anglers out there. Just
wanted to check in and fill you all in on the fishing in the eastern panhandle
of West Virginia. We have had an
unseasonable amount of rain over the last month and a half, which has made the
conditions less than perfect. Water levels
are above 3 foot higher than they should be, and the water is swift. However the fishing has still be a little
above average for the season.
My normal hotspots for bass have been
a little difficult to get to and have resulted in my pickup getting buried to
the frame on two separate occasions. However the reward of getting onto the lake has outweighed the risk of
getting stuck every time.
We have made
five trips to the lake for Largemouth bass this year, and have done pretty well
every time. The first trip in February
proved to be a challenge due to water temps in the upper 40?s. However even with the colder water temps we
managed to haul in 15 Largemouth Bass, and my fishing buddy Jake even managed
to wrangle in a decent 3 pounder. March
proved to be a bigger challenge due to the extreme amount of rain, which
resulted in a low catch number for the month. ( 23 bass for 4 trips) Between mid April and mid May we have done
extremely well. My 3 year old son Landon
has managed to catch his first fish, which was a 1.5 Largemouth Bass and has also caught several perch.
My fishing Buddy and
I took our first stab at Catfishing for the year this past weekend. Even with water in the mid 50?s, We had a sucessful
night. We caught a total of 3 channel
cats in the 4-5 pound range, two mud cats and a nasty river eel. With temps rising and water returning to it?s
normal levels, the fishing should definetly heat up in the upcoming month. I
look forward to filling you all in on our adventures. Until next time Good luck
and great fishing.
