Power Plant Lakes: February Bass Fishing in Illinois
February 12, 2014
There's a lot of diversity when it comes to fishing in the Prairie State, but there's no doubt about one thing. Your best options for February bass fishing in Illinois are at the power plant lakes.
Power Plant Lakes
In most of our lakes, the water temperature drops during the winter to the point bass become very lethargic as their metabolism slows. However, there are portions of our power plant lakes where water temp stays at a level where the bass remain active all winter and will readily take a wide variety of offerings. This makes for some fun and exciting fishing for properly bundled up anglers.
Spring happens a lot earlier on some of these lakes and bass can often be found in pre-spawn patterns as early as this month in some locations. From now into next month the fishing will continue to get better. Bass can be caught with a variety of tactics ranging from slow-worked jigs to crankbaits, spinnerbaits and plastics. Anglers just need to identify the location and pattern of bass then adjust fishing methods appropriately.
