Falcon Rods Releases New Casting Rod
Falcon Rods has introduced Cara Micro, a series of split-grip, high-modulus tournament casting rods. Each has at least 12 Fuji Alconite Micro Guides for longer casts and heightened line-to-hand hookset sensitivity.
"More guides mean more points of contact and therefore more sensitivity. More guides means less line flutter so casts are much longer," said Falcon's Chris Beckwith. "Falcon Cara Micro sets the new standard for tournament rods."
The guides are made with Fuji's corrosion-resistant S-4 stainless steel featuring Alconite hard ceramic, diamond-polished ring inserts that are smoother than Hardloy inserts, lighter than SiC, silicone carbide inserts, and also prevent ring grooving while fighting fish with braided lines.
Introduced to the tackle industry at the ICAST 2010 trade show, Falcon Rod's new Cara Micro rods weigh less, even with additional guides, a benefit of split-grip handles as well as lighter guides. The Cara Micro CCM-5-1610, for example, the 6'10" Finesse Jig rod with 12 guides, weighs only 4.2 ounces.
Other rods in the new line, with lengths, model names and guide counts, are the CCM-4-170, 7'0", Cranker, 12 guides; CCM-5-167, 6'7" Weightless Worm, 12-guides; CCM-6-1610, 6' 10" Grass Rod, 12 guides; and CCM-7-173, 7'3" Amistad, 13 guides. All are designed with medium, medium heavy or heavy actions with tip flexes that allow casting lures from 1/4 to 1 ½-ounces.
B.A.S.S. pros Mike McClelland and Jeff Kriet concepted and worked with Falcon designers on the new Micro Guide series which combine strategies from two other successful Falcon rod series. Cara Micro uses the same blank used on Cara T7 rods, Falcon's F120X blank, a proprietary weave of high modulus, highly sensitive graphite. The multiple guide concept was drawn from the Falcon LowRider series, rods also known for longer casts and line-guide-hand sensitivity.
Falcon's spinning and casting rod series also include Falcon BuCoo, Falcon Coastal, Falcon LowRider, Falcon HD, Falcon Original and Falcon Cara T7.
In recent years Falcon also has become a major player in tackle storage systems with its series of Falcon FTO tackle organizers that organize spinner-baits, crankbaits, hooks and sinkers, hard lures, soft plastics lures, reels and line.
At ICAST, the fishing industry's annual trade show in July, Falcon signaled a major new addition to its product line in 2011- spinning reels. The Oklahoma firm told retailers it is bringing out two spinning reel series - Volt and Moxie - with a total of six precision-made spinning reels with more ball bearings that set new standards for smooth performance.
