Ebany, Brown Take Crown at Rock River King Kat Event
This past Saturday June 11th
the Cabela?s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Rock River at Dixon, Illinois for the $10,000.00 Super Event. This tremendous event had nearly 150 anglers from 6 different states competing not only for $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2011 Cabela?s King Kat Classic. This year's Cabela?s King Kat Classic
will be held at Burlington, Iowa October 28th & 29th."Over 500 spectators were in attendance for the weigh-in where anglers had fought some touch fishing after a cold front which dumped several inches of rain on the area just days before", said Tournament Director Tanner Tabor. Taking first place was the Rockton, Illinois team of Rob Ebany and Erich Brown with a weight of 38.05 pounds and earning $4,000.00. Rob and Erich were fishing between Hillside and Erie in 15 feet of water using bull head and sunfish as bait. The team caught 7 fish total for the day. Each team is allowed to weigh in their largest 5 fish at the weigh in at the end of the day.In a tie for second place was the Erie, Illinois team of Larry Morine and Ray Graham weighing in 22.55 pounds and earning $1,625.00. Larry and Ray were fishing near Erie in 6-8 feet of water using bluegill when fishing for flatheads and shrimp when fishing for channel cats. The team caught 12 fish for the day. Tying for second place was the team of Cheyenne Voss of Erie, Illinois and Abe Weubben of Albany, Illinois whom also had a weight of 22.55 pounds and earning $1,625.00. Cheyenne and Abe were fishing between Prophetstown and Erie in 5-9 feet of water using shrimp for bait to catch 20 fish for the day.Bruce Sanders of Rock Falls, Illinois and Rammond Sanders of Sterling, Illinois took fourth place with a weight of 22.15 pounds and earning $800.00. Bruce and Rammond were fishing below route 2 in 8-10 feet of water using creek chubs as bait to catch 25-30 fish for the day.Fifth place went to the team of Phil Brown of Des Moines, Iowa and Dale Brown of Iowa City, Iowa with a weight of 22.1 pounds and earning $600.00. Phil and Dale were fishing the Prophetstown area in 20-40 feet of water using shad guts for bait to catch 15 fish for the day.Big Fish of The Event
Taking big fish of the event was the Erie, Illinois team of Doug Greth and Brett Garrison with a cat weighing 12.65 pounds and earning $500.00.
