Don't Take a Chance, Check Line Guides
Nothing ruins a day faster than breaking off on a big fish. The condition of your line is a big factor in landing or loosing a fish. One thing anglers can forget to do is check their line guides on rods throughout the fishing season.
A faulty guide will put nicks and abrasions in your line, weakening it significantly over time. If you find yourself breaking your line above the knot more often than you'd like, you just might have a bad guide.
I check my guides by running a cotton Q-Tip through each of them. If I find that the cotton fibers are catching somewhere on the guide, then it likely needs to be replaced. Even with the invention of rod socks and rod lockers, guides can still take a beating. Before your next trip, check guides on all your rods with this hack. If you find some faulty ones, get them replaced. It might just help you bring that next big fish into the boat.
