6-Point 'Dinosaur' Trophy Buck Logs High B&C Score

The Boone and Crockett Club cleared up a couple of things about the European rack of a trophy buck, nicknamed the "dinosaur" buck recently scored in Oklahoma.

The unusual 6-point whitetail scored an amazing 216 1/8 points (nontypical net score), leaving some to believe it may not be the mount of a real deer. And, some of those who believe the rack is real were led to believe it was the largest nontypical 3x3 rack ever scored by B&C.

Here's what the club said:

"It's gone viral on social media, raising questions about whether it's real or faked. We've verified it's real, and here's the score chart [see at end of file] and a couple of images to satisfy the doubters," the club posted on its web site. "There have also been rumors that it's a record 6-point frame, however that's not the case. A hunter-taken buck from Illinois in 1991 takes that prize with a score of 242 7/8."

According to this report in the Oklahoman newspaper, hunter Brad Julian Jr. took the rack to a recent trade show in Oklahoma to get it scored by B&C scorer George Moore.

"I thought he was bringing us the head of a dinosaur," Moore told the Oklahoman newspaper of the moment he saw Julian walk up with the mount.

Julian, 36, reportedly killed the buck on family property during the second weekend of the gun season,  the Oklahoman said.

Julian said he had seen the deer several times via trail-cam photos.

"I've scored somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 deer in my lifetime," Moore told the newspaper. "No doubt this is the most unique deer I have ever scored."
