According to a New Mexico Department of Game and Fish news release, the warrants were carried out Tuesday, June 20 in the Farmington area as part of an investigation that began earlier this year.

Game and Fish officers, with assistance from the New Mexico State Police and San Juan County Sheriff’s office, served the warrants.

A Farmington man is facing multiple charges, the state agency said. Because the investigation is ongoing, officials have not identified the suspect.

The investigation of the man was originated by Game and Fish Officer Shana Burkhardt after trail camera pictures placed on private land revealed what appeared to be illegal activity, the new release stated.

No other information on the case was released.

It is illegal in New Mexico to kill any game animal out of season and without a proper and valid hunting license. It is also illegal to pick up dead heads, road kill or any skull with antlers attached.

The Department of Game and Fish encourages anyone with information about wildlife crimes to call Operation Game Thief toll-free at (800) 432-4263. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for rewards if information leads to charges being filed.
