Remington Hog Hammer
Remington was at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas for the launch of their new Hog Hammer ammunition line, which is made from start to finish for hog hunting enthusiasts. The Hog Hammer ammo utilizes a Barnes Triple Shock X (TSX) bullet for tremendous penetration and reliable expansion all the way out to 500 yards in most calibers. Remington builds the Hog Hammer with a nickel plated case to help feed and extract the cartridge as flawlessly as possible for follow up shots. Due out this spring, Hog Hammer will be available in seven calibers, from .223 Rem. all the way up to .450 Bushmaster.
Remington Hypersonic
Remington was at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas to launch their new Hypersonic bonded ammunition, which is designed for higher velocities and flatter trajectories. The Hypersonic line features nine calibers for 2013 that give hunters an extra 200 fps on average over standard loads. To compensate for higher velocities, Remington used their Core-Lokt bonded bullet, which is available from .223 Rem. all the way up to .300 Win. Mag.
Winchester .17 Super Magnum
Winchester introduced a brand new caliber this year at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas—the .17 Win. Super Magnum. Brett Flaugher, vice president of ammo marketing and sales, said it's the best of both worlds.
"Part of the appeal of rimfire ammunition to high-volume shooters is the relatively low price. With the launch of the .17 Win. Super Mag., now hunters will get the downrange performance of a centerfire cartridge at the more affordable price point of traditional rimfire ammunition. It's the best of both worlds."
Winchester AA Tracker Shotshells
Winchester was at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas to introduce its new Winchester AA Tracker shotshell, which features a wad engineered specifically to help shooters track their shot placement.
The new AA Tracker wad was built on the traditional AA platform but now features longer petals that are notched, creating a highly visible wad that functions much like a bullet or fletching on an arrow. When the wad comes out of the shotgun it spin-stabilizes, making it extremely accurate as it tracks in the center of your shot pattern. The AA Tracker shotshell will be available in black and orange wads for different visibility conditions. According to Winchester, the AA Tracker shotshell will run about $1 more per box than standard AA loads.
Winchester Varmint X
Winchester was at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas for the launch of their new Varmint X ammunition line, which is designed specifically with the predator hunter in mind. The new Varmint X is built with a polymer tip and a thin jacket for rapid expansion. This makes the bullet extremely devastating while also limiting pelt damage. Winchester also employs a brass shell casing to help keep the cost down. The new Varmint X is currently shipping in .223 Rem. and .22-250 and should retail for around $20 (box of 20). Winchester also has plans to release the Varmint X in .204 Ruger and .243 Win.
