Spotted Seatrout Could Claim IFGA All-Tackle Length Record

by Dylan Polk   |  March 14th, 2012 4

SeaTroutA Sebastian, Fla., man is waiting to see if his spotted seatrout catch is a world record — but that number won’t be based on weight.

According to TCPalm.com, Gary Beach reeled in a 31-inch spotted seatrout on Feb. 22 in the Indian River Lagoon using a D.O.A. Cal 4-inch shrimp.

That’s certainly long enough to make a run at the International Game Fish Association’s all-tackle length record.

Introduced in 2010, the all-tackle length record requires that fish be caught and released “so that it swims away on their own and in good condition,” according to the IFGA website. Therefore, the fish are ineligible for weighing and must be photographed before being released.

The TCPalm reports that the paperwork has been submitted and is awaiting review from the IFGA, though Capt. Gus Brugger said he’s confident Beach’s catch will unseat the current record 24.4 inches. caught by Patrick Sebile of Fort Pierce, Fla., in Jan. 2011.
