A 74-pound striper, or rockfish, caught off of Cape Henry, should be a new state record reports Lee Tolliver of the Virginian-Pilot. Cary Wolfe, a 56-year-old x-ray technician from Prince William County, was fishing with Capt. Tim Cannon aboard his boat Bada Bing, when he landed the big fish after a 15-minute fight.
“We knew it was a citation (40-plus pounds) winner, but we weren’t sure just how big until we got it on the scales at the dock. When we got it in the boat, we knew it was huge” shared Wolfe.
The previous record was held by Fred Barnes of Chesapeake, who caught his big fish almost four years ago to the day Wolfe reeled in his whopper.
